Hi everyone! My name is Cesar Lopez and I am the co-founder of WAGGIN, the inventor of the WAGGIN Backpack, and dog dad to the best pup ever, Ginger!
We decided to start the WAGGIN Blog because A.) people love to hear me talk so they should love to read what I have to say, right? (just kidding) but more importantly B.) so that dog owners have a place to go for industry information, hear our experiences with starting a company and building a product, get our opinion on different pet products, get the latest tips, tricks, and updates on the WAGGIN Backpack and get some overall great dog content!
Since it’s our first ever blog post, it seemed fitting to give a bit of background on me and my journey!
My path to entrepreneurship first started with 2 major events. The first event was the first time I sketched out the collapsible trailer idea on paper. Doesn’t seem like a major event at first glance, but it’s the literal foundation behind the product and how the adventure started.
The second major event was being let go from my corporate job at the end of 2020. With a little push from my fiancé and business partner, I was able to let go of the idea of being “corporate comfortable.” I opted to take on the uncomfortable and scary road of building a business full-time – no guarantees, no weekly paycheck, no cushion – just my idea! (Although it is a REALLY good idea!)
It wasn’t as easy as it sounds though, I worked in corporate for nearly a decade. I was a true 9am-6pm employee, loved 6:30pm happy hours and more importantly LOVED the steady paycheck. But I couldn’t shake the thought that I might have an idea that would solve a problem that urban pet owners face. I also didn’t want to look back 30 years from now and regret letting the fear of failure stop me from pursuing my dream.
Luckily for me I had the belief in myself, the support from my family and friends, and I met an incredible woman who not only believed and supported me but also joined me in starting the company. With that backing we set off on the product creation and business building journey and so far, have never looked back!
